4th of July is Independence Day in USA, National Holiday. Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It's a day of picnics and patriotic parades, a night of concerts and fireworks, and a reason to fly the American flag.

It's also a day to honor military who fight to keep freedom alive in USA. There's another holiday called Veteran's Day. But it seems to focus more on soldiers that already served. 4th of July honors both current and past.

Everything (almost) is closed on 4th of July. Even regular business close. There is 1 day off that is included. For example, if 4th of July falls on a weekend, then Friday is off. Employees get paid on that day even though it's off because it's a National Holiday.

The biggest celebration are picnics and fireworks. People love to go to parks and have barbeque and picnics. It's so crowded and you can't find a patch of green anywhere.

The fireworks are amazing. In Southern California, fireworks are illegal in some cities. So people have to go to organized firework shows.

The cities in Southern California are so close together. You can live in one city and then walk to the corner and you will be in another city. So people just walk over a few blocks and buy fireworks, then take it back to their homes.

I live in Huntington Beach, which is a beach city. We go to the pier and watch the fireworks show that is organized by the city. It's so crowded and chaotic on 4th of July night. Usually we bring our bicycles in the truck and park far away. Then we ride our bikes to the pier. Parking is crazy. If you're lucky to find close parking, you won't be able to get out until everyone is gone.

I live about 10 minutes drive from Disneyland. Every night they have a fireworks show called Electric Parade, but it lasts only a few minutes. But the 4th of July fireworks is bigger and longer. We can sit in my backyard and watch some of the fireworks.

Going out of town is also another tradition. But it's crazy. Everybody is on the road and the traffic is terrible. You waste a lot of time driving and sitting in traffic. When we go out of town, we leave early and come back early.

So that's about it. One big party here in USA! Very Happy

Huntington Beach is called Surf City. The people are very laid back and friendly, easy going - not like other cities like LA (lots of stuck up people). Beautiful weather, lots of sun. It's summer here all year long. They have a lot of pro surfing competitions there.

WOW! That's great!
I think US people are very patriotic!
Thank u so much Tulip for your post. Italians don't know US tradition, and I love this kind cultural change!
Thank you!
